Welcome to the New Site!
A brand new chapter in the tolkienprofessor.com‘s history is opening in front of you, dear visitors!
With the help of Mythgard Institute, my recently-launched school for the study of Tolkien and related works, I have just completed a complete redesign of the Tolkien Professor website. I think you’ll love it, but let me give you the tour!
To start, content will now be easier to find than ever before with spaces for featuring new materials as well as old favorites. There will also be more opportunities to share exclusive content, especially as the three-fold happenings of the 75th anniversary of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the publication of my Exploring The Hobbit book and the premiere of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit film. An exciting 2012 for Tolkien fans, no doubt!
So poke around, have a look at the new tolkienprofessor.com and get comfy – and definitely stay tuned for more updates, announcements and much, much more!

Nice facelift on the site! It definitely deserved one.
Will parts 2 and 3 of “The Minstrel, The Painter, and The Scholar” be up soon? I have been waiting for those since the first was released.
Thanks for the compliment! We are certainly working on a backlog of recordings so expect more announcements here soon. There’s a handy “Episodes” widget at the bottom that will always list the newest content first, too.
Love the new site! A lot easier to navigate than the old one.
I’m looking forward to your Hobbit book and to exploring this site.
Thanks!
Thank you for this effort.
Been enjoying the Silmarillion seminars on my iPhone as one of the podcasts offered. Got to #15 and now they are all gone. Only #1 is still on there.
Never mind. All the episodes have returned. Awesome! Can’t wait for the parts on Turin.
Dear Prof. Olsen,
I’m an adjunct professor at Sogang University (a small private Jesuit institution) in Seoul, South Korea where I’m teaching a course in The Hobbit. I’m requiring my students to listen to your Hobbit Lecture Series to supplement my lack of expertise. Thank you for all your hard work from which we are all benefiting immensely! I have a question for you which is rather personal. I hope you don’t mind my asking. The depth of your insight into Tolkien’s philosophy of life lead me to believe you are a faithful Christian. Might you also be Catholic? l’ll only share your response to my inquiry with immediate family unless you give me leave to tell my students as well.
Thanks for your kind words about the podcast, Leah. That’s very exciting to hear that you are requiring the Hobbit series as course material in your classroom all the way in Seoul. (I’m currently attempting to teach myself Korean.) I’ll be sure to pass your question up to Dr. Olsen by email.
