Riddles in the Dark: Episode Five
The latest installment of Dr. Olsen’s Riddles in the Dark podcast series has just been posted over at Mythgard’s site. Take a listen as he and Dave Kale discuss “Bombur and Buffoonery” – the beginnings of the talks on how humor might be incorporated into Peter Jackson’s celluloid adaptation of Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
Something you guys didn’t take into account (I kept waiting for it) is the fact that in the FOTR film, at the Party Bilbo tells the little children about the troll encounter in pretty much the way it occurs in the book. I suppose that could be him “dumbing it down” for kids, but how would you explain that filmically? So that is one point for the scene being relatively close to how it happens in the book.
